Here we are in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Jocelyn, Sophie, Freckles and Ken doing what is sometimes the most fun. Getting a picture with cockers who think they have better places to be.
The Beginning
Both my husband and I have a real passion for the American Cocker Spaniel. Ken grew up with a little black cocker. When he and his family moved to Regina his parents got rid of his little dog. Needless to say Ken was very hurt and carried those feelings around for many years. Our first cocker, known as "Steeler" came to us as a 4 month old puppy from Winnipeg. He was brought to us by a kind woman who attended the show. He came in his little 100 crate. I brought the crate into our family room as Ken said let's see this little thing. I plopped the crate on the ottoman and opened the door. Out came the most adorable tri colored cocker spaniel. Ken looked at me and said in a gruff voice "How dare you buy something so cute"!! I thought he was really mad that I had bought Steeler. Then there was a big sigh. Then I could see the hurt feelings leave and little Steeler climbed up Ken's chest and licked and licked his face. The rest is history.
Philosophy
We are enjoying our cockers and want to do the best for the breed that we can possibly do. We only breed a litter once or twice a year. We are dedicated to breeding sound healthy dogs. Most of all we breed soundness temperament and health. We feel temperament is the most important quality in a dog. Health comes next. We test the eyes of our breeding stock annually and we do x-rays of their hips. We get the hips certified at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. We also do Thyroid studies. Our puppies are raised and socialized in our home. Occasionally, we have pet puppies for sale on a spay/neuter contract only. We do not sell puppies for breeding purposes. Our males are not for public stud.
We are members of The Canadian Kennel Club and American Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada.
All our dogs are pets before they are show dogs. They live in the house with us. The whole back of our house is allocated to our dogs. It is wonderful to curl up on the chesterfield on a cold winter evening and watch TV with the pack or even have the occasional sing along.
